February 23, 2017All Welcome to Attend Community Forum on Schenectady Civilian Police Review Board
All are invited to a forum regarding the Schenectady Civilian Police Review Board (CPRB) on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 7 p.m. The forum (rescheduled from a February date when there was a weather issue) will be hosted by the Parsons Memorial COGIC located at the corner of Catherine and State Streets (1 Catherine Street 12307) in Schenectady. The host pastor is Rev. Richard Parsons. There is ample parking adjacent to the church, which is the same building as the State Street Presbyterian Church.
The public forum is sponsored by the Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM), the Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, and the Schenectady CPRB.
The forum will provide an opportunity to learn what the CPRB is, what it can do, how it is composed, and its role in the community. Attendees will also learn how to file a complaint and the process used in handling complaints.
The first part of the forum will be a panel with Richard Homenick, Chair of the CPRB, Chief of Police Eric Clifford, Randy McGough, a CPRB member, and Rev. Phillip Grigsby of SICM. Rev. Grigsby will provide the background and history of the CPRB and the two current members as well as the Chief will provide information about its composition, process, and role in the community. There will be ample opportunity for questions and dialogue.
The original CPRB was developed in Schenectady in the early 1990s with the collaboration of the late Charles Mills when he was Public Safety Commissioner. It was an outgrowth of grassroots community activism from critical community events. The legislation has been revised and updated on several occasions.
For further information, contact Rev. Phillip Grigsby at SICM, at 374-2683, X111 or email: revphil @sicm.us.
