WAMC, Good-Government Groups To Host U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara

WAMC/Northeast Public Radio, Citizens Union, Common Cause New York, the League of Women Voters and the New York Public Interest Research Group are proud to announce that they will host a live conversation with U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara of the Southern District of New York Feb. 8th at 4 p.m. at The Linda, WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio in Albany.

The event – featuring prepared remarks by Bharara and an interview with WAMC President and CEO Dr. Alan Chartock – will be broadcast live on WAMC’s 28 radio frequencies and at www.wamc.org.

“We are delighted and highly honored that the U.S. Attorney has chosen WAMC to be the venue for this speech. Preet Bharara is a personal hero for me. He has done more to clean up Albany than all the other actors combined,” Chartock says. “When he says he’ll do something, he does it. We know this will be a packed house and anyone who wants to go should let us know – and fast.”

Citizens Union, the New York Public Interest Research Group, the League of Women Voters and Common Cause New York are co-sponsoring the event All four groups are championing additional ethics reform to strengthen the state capital’s crime wave of corruption.

Doors open at 3 p.m. and will close promptly at 4 to accommodate the live broadcast.

Bharara was nominated by President Obama to become the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York on May 15, 2009. Mr. Bharara’s nomination was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 7, 2009, and he was sworn in on August 13, 2009.
