Unity House Kicks Off Annual Children’s Holiday Program

The days after Thanksgiving are a busy time for Unity House as it begins its Children’s Holiday Program that supplies more than 1,500 children with new items such as coats, boots, clothes, games and toys for the holidays. Through this program individuals and businesses are invited to help by donating purchased toys they have selected, by “adopting” a child and purchasing the toys that child has on his or her wish list or by giving gift cards.

Unity House will take the toys donated to the organization and place them in its holiday store so that parents can come and shop at no cost for their children and pick out the items they know best suit their children’s interests. This type of giving allows the parents to maintain their dignity of choice when it comes to gifting to their children for the holidays.

“We really strive to make the holidays for these children and parents just like they would be if they weren’t under these difficult circumstances and needing assistance,” said Chris Burke, Unity House chief executive officer. “We want them to be excited to open presents and look forward to the holidays.”

Those interested in being a part of this program are encouraged to contact Mandy Brown at 518.274.2607 ext. 4139 or email mbrown@unityhouseny.org for more information. The deadline for the toy drop-off is Friday, Dec. 7 at Unity House’s Front Door, at 2431 6th Ave. in Troy.
