Unity House Hosts Community Court Access Program’s New Location in Hoosick Falls

The New York State Unified Court System’s Third Judicial District has opened the newest location of its Community Court Access Program (CCAP) in cooperation with Unity House’s Domestic Violence Services (UHDVS) program at UHDVS’s Hoosick Falls center at the Hoosick Falls Armory, 80 Church St. The building also houses the Hoosick Falls Town Court.

The CCAP is a new initiative of the Unified Court System and is intended to enhance access to justice by enabling residents who lack a home computer or reliable internet to participate in court matters, including but not limited to virtual court proceedings, e-filing of court documents, connecting remotely to court, and accessing free legal services from a secure site in their neighborhood.

“This program is so helpful for those who may be unable to get to a physical courthouse for reasons such as lack of transportation, lack of child care, or personal safety,” said Unity House CEO Chris Burke. “In addition, the site offers comprehensive services for those in the community who are seeking legal assistance; they will be connected to the broader range of UHDVS services, including access to pro bono attorneys and legal consultation.”

A UHDVS staff member has been specially trained to help guide participants throughout their visit. In addition, informational handouts on a range of matters, including services offered by UHDVS on housing, domestic violence, therapy, and substance abuse matters are available at the CCAP site.

All CCAP sites are equipped with laptops, video cameras, scanners, and printers and are located in a private area for confidently purposes.

Through this inventive court-community partnership, the state’s Unified Court System’s Third Judicial District can now provide vital assistance to the residents of rural Rensselaer County on civil, family, and surrogate’s court matters at a safe, secure, convenient location, eliminating barriers to justice.

Operating hours for the Hoosick Fall site are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. COVID-19 safety procedures and protocols are being strictly followed at the facility. Appointments can be scheduled by contacting the CCAP helpline at 518-285-6165 or by emailing 3jdcommunitycourtaccess@nycourts.gov
