The Mohawk Valley Library System and the New York State Council on the Arts presents: Authors Among Us – Ramblings & Enchantment:Memoir Through Travel

The Mohawk Valley Library System and the New York State Council on the Arts presents: Authors Among Us – Ramblings & Enchantment:Memoir Through Travel, a three part writing workshop facilitated by Marea Gordett. This event will take place Saturday October 17, 24, and 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Schenectady County Public Library at 99 Clinton Street, Schenectady in the Dixon Board Room.

Sometimes half of the joy of travel exists in getting to a place, only to discover that the greatest thrill lies in the unplanned trip, accidental occurrence, or amazing food. The journey to the self along the way is what makes travel writing so exciting to read, especially when it comes from a surprising turn of events. We will explore ramblings and the inner work of memory to revive trips we have taken, through enchanted friends, meals, or places.

Marea Gordett is currently writing about a recent trip to Dublin, Ireland on “Bloomsday”, the weeklong celebration of Ulysses by James Joyce and weaving it with current events affecting Ireland. She has won the Pushcart Prize for her poetry, Freeze Tag, and is the founder and director of an organization which delivers memoir classes, literature/writing classes, and test preparation throughout the Capital Region.

Patrons interested in attending this THREE-PART-WORKSHOP to should call 518.388.4511 or go to scpl.org to register, as space is limited.

This program series is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Library System and participating member libraries.
