Take a Snap with Santa and Enjoy Festival of Trees at NYPA Visitor Center

Santa Claus will make an early appearance Saturday, Dec. 10 at the New York Power Authority’s Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center to hear wish lists from local youngsters and pose for free photos from noon to 2 p.m.

There will also be a special craft activity for children organized by representatives of Mine Kill State Park and wagon rides. Children will receive a special holiday ornament. Please remember to bring a non-perishable food item to contribute to the food drive to benefit local food banks.

From Dec. 1-31, the visitors center will also host the annual Festival of Trees, with more than 17 trees decorated in a variety of holiday themes by local schools and community organizations.

On Dec. 17, take a break and watch a holiday movie at 2 p.m.  When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

The handicapped-accessible visitors center, housed in a restored 19th-century dairy barn, features hands-on exhibits for children of all ages and abilities.

The Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center is located on Route 30, five miles north of Grand Gorge, 17 miles south of Middleburgh and 50 miles southwest of Albany. School groups and community organizations are welcome. It is open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. but will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
