Sponsor-A-Scholar announces keynote speaker, emcee for upcoming Scholar Celebration

Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar announced that Juju Chang, anchor of ABC’s Nightline, will deliver the keynote address at its upcoming Scholar Celebration and 20th Anniversary Gala.

Robin Christenson, executive director, highlighted Ms. Chang’s contributions to Sponsor-A-Scholar: “Ms. Chang and her family have been instrumental in Sponsor-A-Scholar’s success, and Ms. Chang herself is a role model for aspiring first generation-to-college students across the country. We are thrilled that she will be with us on this momentous occasion.” Ms. Chang’s mother-in-law, Mildred Shapiro, was an avid early supporter of the program, and a dedicated board member. The family founded a scholarship in her memory in 2007.

John Gray, local ABC News 10 anchor, will emcee the event.

Sponsor-A-Scholar was initially founded in 1997 to address poor high school graduation rates in area urban schools. Over time, Sponsor-A-Scholar focused its efforts on providing comprehensive college readiness and college completion resources for selected local students. Since 2000, more than 215 students have earned college diplomas, and Sponsor-A-Scholar supports more than 110 students who are currently pursuing college degrees, as well as 92 high school Scholars.

The Scholar Celebration and 20th Anniversary Gala will take place on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy at 235 Hoosick Street. Tickets are available online www.crsas.org or by calling 518-935-1045.
