Special Spring Run of Albany Public Library’s Silent Film Spectacular

Albany Public Library is hosting a special spring edition of its award-winning Silent Film Spectacular movie and music performance series. These programs offer a truly unique film-going experience as silent movies are screened alongside live performances of original soundtracks crafted by talented Capital Region musicians.

The Silent Film Spectacular events take place in the large auditorium of the Washington Ave. Branch (161 Washington Ave.) every Wednesday evening in April at 7 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public. For more information, please call 518.427.4349.

The upcoming Silent Film Spectacular programs are:

April 6, “A Message from Mars”
Featuring live, original music by Nelson Quintana Esposito (NQE) with special guest Bob Resnick
The 1913 film follows a Martian who travels to Earth to cure a selfish man and is believed to be the first full-length science fiction movie made in the United Kingdom.

April 13, “Battleship Potemkin”
Featuring live, original music by Matt Weston
The 1925 film is a fictionalized account of a Russian naval strike that ended in a riot at the Battleship Potemkin.

April 20, “Clash of the Wolves”
Featuring live, original music by Kimono Dragons
Famous movie dog Rin Tin Tin stars in this 1925 film about a wolf pack that terrorizes residents after being driven into their territory by a wildfire.

April 27, “The General”
Featuring live, original music by Ryan Devine and Justin Fuld
This 1926 Buster Keaton film follows a Union soldier who must rescue his beloved train and his best girl during the Civil War.
