SI Group Chemist Dr. Alexandra Krawicz Receives 40 Under 40 Award

SI Group chemist, Dr. Alexandra Krawicz, has been named one of the Capital Region’s 40 Under 40 by The Albany Business Review. Upon joining SI Group in 2015, Alexandra has been responsible for developing new technology and products for the rubber industry, including some of the world’s largest tire manufacturers. In 2017, following two years of intensive research, she filed her first patent application with the U.S. Patent Office for resin technology that has the potential to increase the durability of rubber.

“Alexandra is an impressive chemist with strong business acumen,” said Ray Cull, Executive Director Global Research & Development for SI Group. “Within a relatively short period of time at SI Group, she has become recognized as one of the organization’s leading chemists in rubber resin technology. We’re so pleased she is receiving this award and congratulate her on this tremendous achievement.”

Alexandra received her PhD in chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2012. An accomplished chemist of just 36 years of age, she has published 13 scientific papers and conference proceedings on topics ranging from solar energy and energy conversion, to polymer technology for chip manufacturing. Alexandra is an advocate for early exposure to science, technology, engineering, and math, having participated in CStep, a tutoring program for underrepresented and disadvantaged students. She has also volunteered at miSci (Museum of Innovation and Science) in Schenectady, New York, performing science experiments for school groups.

The 40 Under 40 program established in 1999, honors individuals under the age of 40 who live and work in the Capital Region, and who have made impressive contributions to the growth of the area. Honorees were selected by an advisory committee from more than 400 nominations. An awards ceremony will be held on May 12, 2017 at the Albany Capital Center beginning at 11:30 a.m.
