SCPL Announces FREE Computer Classes for February

Below you will find the listings for Schenectady Public Library’s February Computer Classes, FREE to all SCPL card carrying members thanks to the Friends of the Library.

In order to take any of these great classes, one needs only either call 518.388.4511 or go to our “PROGRAMS & EVENTS” tab at and register!

All classes are held in the Swanker Boardroom at our Central Library located at 99 Clinton Street in downtown Schenectady.

 

Computers for Novices

Thursday, February 4 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

An introduction to computers for absolute beginners.

No experience necessary.

 

Basic Microsoft Excel 2010

Saturday, February 6 @ 9:15-10:45 a.m.

Start with the basics by entering data. Learn a variety of tips for formatting and printing your worksheet.

Requirement: Mastery of basic word processing skills.

 

Facebook

Monday, February 8 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

Keep track of friends and family through Facebook!  Learn about Facebook’s privacy and sharing settings, and much more.

Requirement: This is an intermediate level class.  Those taking this class should be experienced Internet users. 

Attendees must have a Facebook account set up before class.  Please go to www.facebook.com to create an account.

 

Basic Keyboarding

Tuesday, February 9 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

A hands-on class to learn the computer keyboard.

Those who are new to computers should take this class.

 

Basic Internet

Thursday, February 11 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

A very basic, hands-on introduction to the Internet.

Requirements: Must be able to use the mouse and keyboard.

 

Basic Microsoft PowerPoint 2010

Tuesday, February 16 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

Powerpoint has become the program of choice for the easy creation of business and personal slideshow presentations. You’ll learn how to make effective presentations by adding text, pictures and backgrounds to a variety of slides.

Requirement: Basic familiarity with Microsoft Word and keyboard/mouse.

 

Intermediate Microsoft Excel 2010

Wednesday, February 17 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

Sorting/Filtering/Pivot Tables:  Analyze data using pivot tables and filtering techniques. Create professional reports with data sorted alphabetically and chronologically.

Requirement: Mastery of basic word processing skills.

 

Internet Searching

Thursday, February 18 @ 6-7:30 p.m.

Learn how to search for information on the Internet.

Requirement: Must have taken Basic Internet.

 

Basic Email

Saturday, February 20 @ 9:15-10:45 a.m.

Set up a Gmail account to communicate safely through emails and learn how to write, send, respond and delete emails.

Requirement: Must have basic internet skills.
