Schoharie Teen Uses Capital Region BOCES to Fast-Track Her College Experience

Katie Brisley was done with school.  A junior, she was ready to go on to college and eventually start a career in emergency management, just like her father.

That’s where Capital Region BOCES came into play.

The 17-year-old enrolled in the high school equivalency program and will earn her diploma this year, a year ahead of schedule, and is enrolling in SUNY Schenectady Community College in the fall.

“I was ready to be done with school.  Too much drama.  I like the HSE program because I can get my diploma and go right on to college,” said Brisley.

She is also receiving assistance through Capital Region BOCES and Business Liaison Nancy Liddle in finding a job to help her pay for college.

Brisley, like her dad, is a firefighter in Schoharie and foresees a future in emergency management because of the joy she derives from giving back to the community.

“I like helping people whenever I can,” she said.
