Schenectady Jewish Community Center Announces Lineup for Summer Film Festival

The Schenectady Jewish Community Center (JCC) announces the first offering in its 2021 summer film festival. The festival will feature discussions led by local experts following each film with one film each month from May to August that will be made available upon registration. Film registrants will also receive access to the discussions.

The summer film festival will offer films and discussions virtually, as the Schenectady JCC continue follow COVID-19 protocols. Streaming the films online has also allowed the film festival to be available to a broader community.

Swim Team will be available from May 21 to May 23 to watch at any convenient time, with a strong recommendation to watch prior to the discussion which will take place on Sunday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. led by the film’s director and award-winning producer Lara Stolman.

This film follows the story of parents with a son on the autism spectrum who take matters into their own hands. They form a competitive swim team, recruiting diverse teens on the spectrum and training them with high expectations and zero pity. Swim Team chronicles the extraordinary rise of the Jersey Hammerheads, capturing a moving quest for inclusion, independence, and a life that feels like winning.

Schenectady JCC members and nonmembers can purchase individual or household tickets for the film.
