Schenectady Foundation Scholarship Programs Seek Applicants

The Schenectady Foundation is seeking applicants for two scholarship programs.

The Schenectady STEM Scholarship is funded by the “Clarence E. Crowfoot and Mary Clarke Fund” – a gift from the estate of Sanford A. Shuler, who graduated from high school in Schenectady and was a pioneering engineer. It was his wish that the scholarship be given to help students in the Schenectady City School District interested in a career in science or engineering.

The Foundation plans to award one $5,000 scholarship in 2016 to a graduating senior from Schenectady High School who will be pursuing science or engineering studies in college.

The Anna Hudson Erbacher Scholarship was founded in 1973 from a charitable trust established by John N. Erbacher in memory of his wife, Anna. A teacher in the Schenectady School system, Anna taught at Riverside school in Schenectady’s Stockade. She graduated from New York University with a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Education, and was a dedicated educator throughout her life. This scholarship is intended to support students who share the passion to teach.

The Foundation plans to award Erbacher scholarships to two graduating seniors this year. Each scholarship is worth $10,000 and is payable across 4 years of college studies. Students eligible for this award can attend any high school in Schenectady County and must reside in Schenectady County. Students applying for this scholarship must pursue college coursework preparing them for a teaching career.

Application information – Students should go to www.schenectadyfoundation.org to apply for either of these scholarships. Applications must be submitted online by 5 PM Friday, March 18, 2016.
