Open Houses Begin Today and Run through the Week for Capital Region BOCES Career and Tech, New Visions Programs

Whether their interests lie in becoming a doctor, nurse, computer network administrator, lawyer, mechanic, chef or more, Capital Region BOCES has something to offer students across the region.

During a series of open houses over the coming months, those offerings will be put on display at the Albany, Schoharie and Mohonasen career and technical education program centers.

Scheduled for Jan. 22 (TODAY!) is an open house for the Schoharie Campus Career and Technical Education programs. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A New Visions program open house, where students and their parents can learn all about the New Visions: Health Careers, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 23 in Albany at the Capital Region BOCES central administration offices.

New Visions is a one-year, honors-level program that turns area businesses into classrooms for highly motivated, academically successful high school seniors. In the programs, students learn through traditional methods (lecture, reading, research, writing and focused study), group discussions, internships and rotations. Classes meet daily from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Also on January 23, the Albany campus will open its doors to prospective Career and Tech students and their parents from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Albany campus is located at 1015 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany.

The Center for Advanced Technology at Mohonasen will hold its open house on Jan. 24 from 8:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. The center is located at 400 Warrior Way in Schenectady (on the Mohonasen campus).

The career and technical school open houses are scheduled for Regents testing week when most students will not be in school in their home districts. However, many career and technical school students will be at school in their programs, thus allowing prospective students to see how classes are taught at Capital Region BOCES.
