Legal Aid Society Lawyers Share Their Expertise with Capital Region BOCES P-TECH Students

Representatives of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York met with freshmen in the innovative Capital Region BOCES Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) recently to share their expertise on government, lobbying and helping others.

Victoria Esposito and Nick Buono, lawyers for the society which “fights for fairness, dignity, and justice for those living in poverty”, met with the students for about an hour on May 15 in the P-TECH West Campus classroom in the Center for Advanced Technology in Mohonasen.

The students in the first-year Capital Region BOCES program are exploring social justice and environmental issues and preparing to lobby elected officials on their topics of choice, said Principal Makensie Bullinger. The students are also creating TED Talks on similar topics as a means of creating public passion for their causes.

Esposito and Buono spoke about the society’s mission, how the public accesses it and the roles they play in representing the less fortunate in court and in society.
