Jewish Camp Experience Open House for Saratoga and Clifton Park Families

On Sunday, March 5 at 12:30 pm, Schenectady JCC will host an Open House at the Clifton Park Public Library (Piracci Board Room, 475 Moe Rd, Clifton Park) to gage interest in the Jewish summer camp experience for families in Saratoga and Clifton Park. Lunch and supervised activities for future campers will be provided.

“The goal of the Open House is to spread the word that the Jewish Camp experience is available right here at our facility in Niskayuna,” said Mark Weintraub, Schenectady JCC Executive Director.  “We know that families lead very busy lives.  By committing to transportation from Clifton Park and Saratoga, we are able to add a reasonable additional cost to camp fees and save families time and traffic worries.”

This initiative is being led by a volunteer committee, chaired by two Saratoga Moms, Ali Doyle and Pam Hammer. “Jewish camp was such an important part of our childhoods and who we’ve become as adults.  We want to be able to pass a similar opportunity to our children, the next generation,” said Doyle and Hammer.  “We want our kids to build their own memories and appreciate the virtues of our Jewish faith and culture through the camaraderie and experience of camp.”

Camp at Schenectady JCC has been a tradition for more than 80 years.  This year, 300+ kids (from age 2 to 15) will participate in eight weeks of programming (facilitated by 70+ staff members). Camp is divided into two age groups — Camp Chaverim is for campers through 6th grade, Tween Camp is for campers entering 7th grade/14 years old. Camp offers a variety of Jewish programming and camp experiences, including swimming, sports, crafts, music, dance, science, nature, mitzvah days, field trips, overnights, and interaction with Shlichim (young emissaries from Israel).

This year’s theme, Camp Chaverim Travels Through Time will take campers (3 years to 6th grade) on adventures that explore different time periods from prehistoric times and into the future. New programs for this year include CSI Crime Lab Chemistry Camp, Mixed Media Arts Camp with KidzArt, Challenger Rookie Rugby Camp and a Star Gazing event.

An open house was also held in Saratoga at Temple Sinai on February 5.
