Interim Leadership in Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Development at Hudson Valley Community College Announced

With the search for a new president well underway and several top administrators retiring, Hudson Valley Community College will turn to veteran higher education leaders to take an interim role in two vice presidential positions.

At its September meeting, the college’s Board of Trustees approved the selection of MaryAnn Janosik, Ph.D. and Vance Valerio, Ph.D. as interim leaders in Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management and Student Development, respectively.

Dr. Janosik began Monday, Oct. 9, and Dr. Valerio starts Monday, Oct. 16.

Dr. Janosik and Dr. Valerio were selected from a pool of candidates provided by The Registry, a Peabody, Mass.-based firm that specializes in filling interim positions in colleges and universities. Members of The Registry are higher education professionals who wish to contribute to institutions searching for interim leadership. The college’s new president will lead a search for permanent vice presidents.

“I’ve felt very strongly that the incoming president should be able to have a hand in selecting senior leadership. Dr. Janosik and Dr. Valerio will bring decades of experience working in higher education and allow us to successfully bridge between two presidential administrations at the college,” said President Drew Matonak. “I look forward to working with MaryAnn and Vance in the months ahead as they bring a fresh perspective to Hudson Valley.”

Dr. Janosik served the past two years as head of school for Stanford Online High School, an international college preparatory school for the gifted and talented, which is affiliated with Stanford University. Previously, she held positions as the director of academic affairs at South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, dean of the school of professional studies at St. Catherine University in Saint Paul, Minn., and provost and vice president for academic affairs at Saint Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind.

Dr. Valerio’s recent positions have included special assistant to the president for enrollment management and student services at Marylhurst University, Portland, Ore., senior consultant for enrollment management and student development at Kentucky Wesleyan College, and interim vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at New Jersey’s Felician College.

The interim leaders will fill posts held by vice presidents Carolyn Curtis and Alex Popovics who announced their retirements after years of service to Hudson Valley.
