Ingersoll Place Celebrates 100 Years

Ingersoll Place, an 86 bed assisted living and memory care facility in Niskayuna, NY, celebrated its 100th anniversary Sept. 12, during National Assisted Living Week. Festivities included “Music Through the Decades,” performed by entertainer Mike Purcell, congratulatory remarks by elected officials and a cake and champagne reception. Residents, staff and visitors cheered when it was announced that Mayor Gary McCarthy had proclaimed September 12, 2024, as Ingersoll Place Day in the City of Schenectady.

Originally known as the Ingersoll Memorial Home, Ingersoll Place was the vision of George T. Ingersoll, a prominent Schenectady businessman, who, in the early 1900s, set up a trust fund to ensure the wellbeing of his brother Jacob. He stipulated if sufficient funds remained after Jacob’s death, they be used to establish a home for aged men in memory of his parents, Hiram and Eva Ingersoll. The home opened in 1924, in the former Stanford Mansion and was renamed Ingersoll Place in 2008, when it moved to a newly constructed facility on Consaul Road with expanded services for men and women.

Ingersoll Place, a not-for-profit organization, is an 86 bed residential community licensed by the New York State Department of Health and governed by an all-volunteer board of trustees. Its mission is to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for individuals who are unable to remain in their own homes due to declining physical health and/or mild-to-moderate cognitive impairment generally associated with aging.
