Honorable Randolph Treece Named a New York Law Journal’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement Honoree

The law firm of E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy, LLP, is pleased to announce that the Honorable Randolph Treece has been named a New York Law Journal’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement honoree. This award is bestowed upon individuals who display a lifetime of achievement, meet the highest ethical standards, and whose professional life has inspired respect throughout the legal profession.

Judge Treece is described by many as a “pioneer” in the Capital District Region. He is the first African American to be appointed to the federal judiciary in the Northern District of New York and the first person of color to be appointed or elected to the judiciary at any level, state or federal, in eastern upstate New York since 1898. Throughout his two terms as a United States Magistrate, Judge Treece wrote many significant legal decisions, earning universal respect from the legal community.

Prior to serving in the federal judiciary, Judge Treece served as Assistant Public Defender, Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York, First Deputy Capital Defender, and Counsel to the Office of the State Comptroller. Judge Treece has also volunteered his time and talents to numerous professional and community organizations, including: Co-founder and President of the Capital District Black Bar Association; Vice Chair and Acting Chair of the Urban League of Northeastern NY Inc.; Treasurer of the New York Bar Foundation; New York State Bar House of Delegates; Albany County Bar Association, where he authored the Association’s Minority and Hiring Project & Diversity Internship Fellowship Program; and Capital District YMCA, where he established the CDYMCA youth basketball league. Judge Treece has served as an adjunct professor at Albany Law School, Hudson Valley Community College, and Junior College of Albany, and has served on the boards of Albany Law School, Siena College, Hudson Valley Community College, Capital District YMCA and the Palace Theater.

Currently, Judge Treece concentrates his legal practice on mediation and arbitration services as well as personal injury and commercial litigation.
