Here’s the Friends of Albany Public Library book talk schedule for October:

Book Review | Who Rules the World? by Noam Chomsky
Oct. 4 (Tues) | 12:15 pm | Washington Ave. Branch
Tom Ellis, a local teacher and peace activist, reviews Chomsky’s work, which explores the current international climate and the United States’ desire to maintain its power as a world empire.

Book Review | Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the Fate of the American Revolution by Nathaniel Philbrick
Oct. 11 (Tues) | 12:15 pm | Washington Ave. Branch
The author “wants us to grit our teeth at our early politicians who, by their pettiness and shortsightedness, shape military events as profoundly as generals and admirals do,” according to the Washington Post. The book is reviewed by Barry Finley, a NYS Department of Labor retiree.

Book Review | Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike by Phil Knight
Oct. 18 (Tues) | 12:15 pm | Washington Ave. Branch
Paul Grondahl, biographer and Times Union journalist, reviews this memoir that Booklist called “a rare and revealing look at the notoriously media-shy man behind the swoosh.”

Book Review | Who is Charlie? Xenophobia and the New Middle Class by Emmanuel Todd
Oct. 25 (Tues) | 12:15 pm | Washington Ave. Branch
The author examines the “Je suis Charlie” movement and its members in the wake of the terrorist attack at the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine in January 2015. Jonathan Skinner, a retired statistician, reviews the book.
