Crossroads for Children wins MAXIMUS Foundation Grant

Crossroads Center for Children is proud to announce that the MAXIMUS Foundation has chosen to award Crossroads with a grant of $2,000 in support of the Curricular Extension program at the school.

Crossroads Center for Children is a not-for-profit school located in Schenectady, NY which serves children from all over the Capital Region. Children with and without special developmental needs, especially autism, learn and grow together in preschool classrooms. Crossroads also provides self-contained classrooms for its school-aged student population. The mission of Crossroads is to prepare individuals with and without developmental disabilities for life success within their family and community. Throughout the program, this mission is implemented using a philosophy and methodology of applied behavior analysis (ABA).

Since opening in 1998, the school has served increasing numbers of children with and without disabilities, and we have increased the scope of our programs in order to meet the needs of our community. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students learn the academic and social skills they need to be successful in their family, community and school classroom.

Although Crossroads does receive some government funding in the form of tuition payments, this money does not cover all of the costs of running a successful and effective educational program to meet significant instructional needs. In order to ensure that all students learn the life, academic and social skills needed for success at home, in school and in the community, financial support from the community in the way of fundraising, donations, and grants is critically needed.

“On behalf of the MAXIMUS Foundation, I am proud to provide this award to Crossroads Center for Children,” said John Boyer, MAXIMUS Foundation Chairman. “Crossroads Center for Children and its staff embody the values that the MAXIMUS Foundation strives to achieve through its grant making program – promoting personal growth and self-sufficiency through improved health, augmented child and family development and community development. It is an honor to present this grant to such a deserving organization, and I thank Crossroads Center for Children for its commitment to enriching the lives of those it serves.”
