Crossroads Center for Children Secures $5,000 Grant from CDPHP

Thanks to CDPHP, Crossroads Center for Children is receiving additional funds to carry out its mission of helping children prepare for success by developing critical academic and social skills. CDPHP has generously approved a grant of $5,000.

The grant will support the school’s curriculum needs for the 2018-2019 school year. Crossroads utilizes Learning Without Tears, Touch Math, Learning A-Z, and continues to enhance its offerings to students based upon individual needs. The support of CDPHP will allow the school to purchase materials and supplies for numeration and math skills, ELA and literacy skills, science, social studies, readiness concepts, and other subjects that are needed in the classrooms.

Crossroads Center for Children is located in Schenectady, New York, and is a not-for-profit school serving children and families from all over the Capital Region. Children as young as 2 years old learn and grow together in integrated preschool classrooms. There are preschooler rooms for students with and without developmental special needs, and self-contained, school-aged classrooms that make learning accessible for children up to 12 years old. The mission of Crossroads is to prepare individuals with or without developmental disabilities for success within their families and their communities.

Since opening in 1998, the school has served increasing numbers of children and has widened the scope of programming to meet community needs. Crossroads Center for Children utilizes interventions from the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA), a branch of psychology, and education with a foundation based on scientific analysis of human behavior and learning.

Crossroads Center for Children receives some government funding in the form of tuition payments. However, tuition does not cover the extensive costs of running a successful and effective educational program. To ensure that each young student learns the communication, academic, and social skills needed for growing as productive citizens within their homes, schools and communities, financial support from the community in the way of fundraising, donations, and grants is necessary.

CDPHP requires that certain criteria be met by the asking organization, such as demonstrating sound fiscal and administrative management, benefitting communities in their service area, and registration as a 501(c)(3) organization. Crossroads is proud to be selected and is grateful for this generous gift.
CDPHP has established deep roots in the communities they serve, cultivating close ties and supporting the mission of countless civic, cultural, and charitable organizations. Since the founding of CDPHP in 1984, the corporate giving program has donated millions of dollars and contributed thousands of volunteer hours to extend the reach and impact of numerous charities, improving the lives of residents in their 26-county service area
