March 22, 2017Crossroads Center for Children to Receive Grant
Crossroads Center for Children is proud to announce that it has been chosen to receive a grant from the Stewart’s Holiday Match program to support our highly specialized program.
Crossroads Center for Children, of Schenectady, New York, is a not-for-profit school where young children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities learn and grow alongside their more typically developing peers. The mission of Crossroads is to prepare individuals with and without developmental disabilities for life success within their families and communities.
Since we opened in 1998, the school has served increasing numbers of children with and without disabilities, and we have increased the scope of our programs in order to meet the needs of our community. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students learn the academic and social skills they need to be successful in their family, community and school classroom.
Although we do receive some government funding in the form of tuition payments, this money does not cover all of the costs of running a successful and effective educational program. In order to ensure that all of our young students learn the academic and social skills they need to become fully productive citizens within their homes, schools and communities we must rely on financial support from our community in the way of fundraising, donations, and grants.
“The amazing generosity of our customers contributed to yet another record-breaking season, allowing us to provide support to 1,737 organizations…..we received many requests for support totaling more than $3.8 million, leading to some especially hard decisions that focused on needs versus wants,” writes Amy Potter, Holiday Match Program Director.
We at Crossroads are grateful for the great generosity of the Stewarts’ Foundation and Stewart’s Shops’ customers to the community. We are especially thankful to be esteemed by the Foundation’s Holiday Match Program as worthy of receiving this contribution, which will impact upon necessary technology for our school.
