Community Foundation, B’nai B’rith Gideon Foundation Partner to Offer Funding for Low-Income Residents of Rental Properties

The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and the B’nai B’rith Gideon Foundation have joined forces to offer grant funding for registered nonprofit organizations serving low-income elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and families of low-income residents living in rental properties in New York State’s Capital Region.

The Community Foundation, which will administer B’nai B’rith Gideon Foundation grants in 2016, will accept pre-applications for funding through September 15, 2016. Organizations interested in applying for funding should contact Shelly Connolly at the Community Foundation at (518) 446-9638 or sconnolly@cfgcr.org for guidelines and pre-application materials.

Grants will typically be given for organizations providing rental apartments and/or offering social and recreational activities or programs that support low-income elderly populations, people with disabilities and low-income families. Grants may range from $5,000 to $25,000, and will be given for one-year periods. Organizations serving low-income elderly populations, persons with disabilities, and low-income families who are living in rental organizations, are also eligible to apply. Grants cannot be made to individuals.

“This is an exciting funding opportunity for us,” said John Eberle, President and CEO, the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. “As the number of older adults and individuals with disabilities living independently in the Capital Region grows, it’s important that they have access to social and recreational programs and facilities that can enhance their quality of life. We’re proud to work with the B’nai B’rith Gideon Foundation on this opportunity.”

“The B’nai B’rith Gideon Foundation is pleased to work with the Community Foundation to administer our grants in 2016,” said David Hollander, President, B’nai B’rith Gideon Foundation Board of Directors. “We selected the Community Foundation because of their deep understanding of community needs and their wide reach within the nonprofit community. We look forward to helping some of our region’s most vulnerable individuals—low-income seniors, families and people with disabilities—enjoy a better quality of life thanks to these grants.”
