Colonie’s seniors thank Chaplain Thomas With of the Fuller House Fire Department and all service men and women after the ceremony at Remember Those Who Keep Us Safe.

Colonie Senior Service Centers (CSSC) held the Annual Remember Those Who Keep Us Safe ceremony to honor and thank Colonie’s first responders and remember the lives lost in the fateful attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. This year the event drew in over 175 from the community to come and give thanks and remember those who keep us safe.

This annual program provides an opportunity for the senior citizens of Colonie to remember, recognize and honor the dedicated and hard working men and women who regularly endanger themselves to ensure safety for the community.  CSSC, Colonie’s seniors, and the hardworking local Police, Fire and EMS departments remembered the lives lost 15 years ago.

After a heartfelt opening prayer by Thomas With, Chaplain of the Fuller Road Fire Department, town and emergency officials spoke of their appreciation for this event. Each department gave thanks to their brothers and sisters who they work with everyday to save lives and keep the community safe.  Among the speakers were Paula A. Mahan, Colonie town supervisor; Frank Leak, mayor of the Village of Colonie; Jonathan Teale, Colonie chief of police; Peter Berry, Colonie EMS chief; and Jack Moser, Colonie Fire Company first assistant chief.

“This is a very important day for all of us.  All of the emergency service departments work closely with our seniors, not only coming to their aid in an emergency situation, but also working together with our senior programming to provide seniors with the right tools to remain safe,” said Ed Neary. “Although we are always appreciative of these services, it is nice to have a day to allow these service men and women to see just how deep that appreciation runs.”

CSSC is an independent, community based not-for-profit organization serving the largest population of seniors in the Capital Region.
