October 23, 2018College Recruiters Tap into the Capital Region BOCES Adult Education Program for New Students
A promising future.
That’s what Capital Region BOCES offers high school and adult students and that was on display once 
again on Oct. 17 as more than 100 Adult Practical Nurse (APN) program students were recruited by colleges.
The students met with recruiters from a half-dozen institutions, from Maria College to SUNY Delhi, which would allow them to pursue a Registered Nursing (RN) degree and certification.
Numerous Capital Region BOCES adult students go on to pursue further education; while others enter the full-time workforce with the much sought-after Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification.
“It’s about providing students with options. There is a demand for all levels of certifications in the health care industry and we want our students to understand all of the options they have as a result of their choosing BOCES to enter the industry,” said Paula Negri, principal of the Capital Region Health Careers Center.
“I am here to see what options are out there to further my education,” said Megan Jones of Schodack as she met with a recruiter from SUNY Delhi.
Classmate Jayashree Rahiman of Schenectady has a similar goal.
After pursuing a LPN license at Capital Region BOCES through the APN program to ensure that her single mom will be well-cared for when she needs that level of care, Rahiman is now setting her sights on a registered nursing certification.
“I am hopeful to find the right college here to pursue my RN in,” she said.
Capital Region BOCES’ full-time APN program started in September with a record number of 152 students enrolled. The 10-month New York state-approved APN program encompasses 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical study and practice and prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination and apply to become a New York state LPN.
