CHA Consulting Gets Gold Award

Albany firm CHA Consulting Inc. received a Gold Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies for its work rebuilding Erie Boulevard in Schenectady.

CHA was chosen among more than 60 firms that submitted projects for the 2016 Engineering Excellence Award. CHA received the award in the transportation category.

The company designed the one-mile stretch of Erie Boulevard from I-890 to Union Street. The $14 million project includes new underground utilities, pavement, sidewalks, bike lanes, crosswalks, intersections, parking lanes, lamp posts and fresh landscaping.

“The redesign of Erie Boulevard by CHA into a pedestrian friendly and commercially welcoming area represents a major milestone for the city of Schenectady’s ongoing transformation,” Mayor Gary McCarthy said in a statement. “This new image for the gateway to our downtown reinforces the idea that we are a city where people want to live and work.”

CHA was honored at the 49th annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on Saturday.

The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority recently approved a contract with CHA to survey and design the final portion of sidewalk and streetlight improvements on lower State Street.
