The Century House’s Colin DeMers and Enjoy One Share One Program, Recipient of Community Service Award from NSDAR

On Saturday, December 2, 2017, the General Peter Gansevoort Chapter, NSDAR (National Society Daughters of the American Revolution) will honor Colin J. DeMers with the Community Service Award in recognition of the Enjoy One, Share One program.

DeMers, Managing Partner at The Century House in Latham, NY, established the program in 2009 as a sustained giving business model that would help others, rally the staff and give potential clients yet one more reason to select The Century House over the growing number of competitors. He felt that more than ever with the economy, it was time to shake things up and focus on socially responsible business.

Statistics show that more than 42 million Americans live in food-insecure households*. “Providing comfort and care to our guests, staff, and community is the heart of our mission, and creating a program to help alleviate hunger in our community was a natural fit for us,” DeMers explained.

How it works; The Century House provides a meal in honor of each guest who orders an entrée in the dining or event rooms, or spends a night in any one of the hotel rooms. The donation is made directly to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY, and guests are encouraged to sign the “Book of Giving” at the end of their meal. The book serves as a reminder of each donation made in the guests’ honor. Dedication to the community is a part of everyday business at The Century House as staff members prepare and serve meals at local soup kitchens throughout the year.

Since the program’s launch in June 2009, more than 825,000 meals (with the number growing daily) have been provided to the community as we continue to fight hunger right here in our own backyard, one visit at a time.
