November 1, 2018Center Employees Receive CP of NYS Awards
Employees from the Center for Disability Services were recently honored at the 2018 Cerebral Palsy of New York State 
awards dinner at the Saratoga City Center, as part of the organization’s annual conference, Imagine.
CP of NYS Staff Recognition Awards were presented October 16. Winners from the Center were Kara Brozowski, a Certified Teaching Assistant at the Langan School in Albany, Jim Farrell, a Resident Counselor at the Dixon Road Residence in Queensbury, Kim Thomas, a Direct Support Professional in the Center’s Adult Services at Smith Center and Ty Yates, a Direct Support Professional in Human Resources.
Kara Brozowski encourages her students to reach their highest potential. She is mentor for new staff members and has the specialized skills, demeanor and experience to work in any classroom. With more than 20 years at the Langan School, she encourages her students to grow and ‘get better at life’ on a daily basis and models an excellent work ethic.
Jim Farrell began working at the Dixon Road residence when it opened in 2003. Known as a resource for new staff, he is dedicated to the residents and their families. Farrell has an enthusiastic and flexible attitude which creates a positive, comfortable home environment for those who live there, as well as relatives and visitors.
Kim Thomas is considered a role model for what a direct support professional should be and she consistently puts the needs and interests of the people she supports first. Thomas, hired in 1999, develops relationships in order to know what is important to each individual. She expertly coordinates meaningful and fun community outings and on site activities at Smith Center.
Ty Yates was a student intern in Human Resources in 2002, and then became a direct support professional at the Center’s Woodside Drive residence. Yates enthusiastically applied for the opportunity to manage the front desk for Human Resources and is the first point of contact for people. She is known for her professional manner, teamwork and dedication.
Brozowski, Farrell, Thomas and Yates were selected as award winners because they exemplify the Center’s values of excellence, teamwork, innovation and leadership and are outstanding representatives of all of the staff who make the Center for Disability Services the place where people get better at life.
