Capital Region BOCES Students to Learn at Proctors

Capital Region BOCES students preparing for careers on the stage or on film will gain real-life experiences working on productions at the famed Proctors.

Juniors and seniors in the Capital Region Entertainment Technology Program will be learning full time Proctors Theatre this year as part of the partnership agreement announced in 2019 between BOCES, Proctors and Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FMCC).

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students,” said Jeff Knorr, teacher of the program.

Students will be meeting in the Addy Theatre, Media Lab and other rehearsal spaces while also working on productions when shows resume post-COVID19, Knorr said.

“We are working closely with our Proctors partners in unprecedented times to prepare for the start classes,” said Knorr.

Students in the two-year Entertainment Technology program learn about the many jobs and the skills needed to work in the entertainment industry, including set design/carpentry, lighting/stage electrics, sound design/recording, costuming, stage management, film/media, etc.

Students can earn up to 16 college credits at FMCC through the program.

The new BOCES-Proctors-FMCC partnership was announced as a means for students to earn an expedited degree at FMCC during a 2019 event at Proctors.

“The Entertainment Technology degree shows what can happen when we all work together to create new avenues for students, new ways for them to express themselves and forge non-traditional career paths,” Capital Region BOCES Senior Executive Officer Joseph P. Dragone, Ph.D. said at the time.
