Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Photo Release: ‘Revvving’ up their Future

Diesel Technology students Bradley Herrgesell, Aiden Enders and Shawn Clark work this week on a “big block” engine in the diesel lab at Capital Region BOCES.

The juniors from Niskayuna, Duanesburg and Schalmont respectively are all following in their family’s footsteps in pursuing a career repairing diesel engines. In doing so, the trio and the 40 other students from across the Capital Region enrolled in the program are preparing themselves for careers that are in high demand. According to federal labor statistics, demand for diesel technicians is expected to jump nine percent during the next nine years.

“Diesel is something not a lot of people are doing now so I thought it is a good opportunity for a career. I like diesels because they run different than regular engines and I like the challenge,” Herrgesell said.

The diesel tech program, like every program at Capital Region BOCES, benefits from strong industry partners that regularly donate equipment and advise faculty and administrators on the latest in technological advances in the industry. Just last year, Callanan Industries donated a cement truck to the program for students to work on.
