About the Artist

Mary Frances is a native of Schenectady, NY. She studied graphic design at the Professional Institute of Art in Maryland and holds degrees in Occupational Therapy from Maria College and Sociology from SUNY Albany. All three degrees have served her well with both her art and teaching watercolor and silk painting throughout the Capital District of NY.

“People ask me why I paint horses. My response is ” How can I not?” Since I live close to Saratoga, there’s horse farms everywhere, in print and broadcast media so their image has imprinted on my mind. I know so many horse owners and became quite enamored with their combination of gentleness and strength. To portray these qualities in horses, I have chosen to use substances that are both soft and strong such as torn watercolor paper, coffee and recycled jeans.”
