Albany Ronald McDonald House to Open New Family Fun Rooms Courtesy of the Capital Region Chamber’s Leadership Tech Valley Class of 2017

The Albany Ronald McDonald House is set to cut the ribbon on its newly renovated family fun rooms, courtesy of the Capital Region Chamber’s Leadership Tech Valley (LTV) Class of 2017. Renovations were completed this spring, transforming two rooms on the basement level of the South Lake Avenue house into a mini-movie theater and 1980s-style video game room. A ribbon cutting ceremony and reception is planned for Wednesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. at the house on South Lake Avenue in Albany. Additional details on the event will follow in the coming days.

Each year, members of the LTV class select a project that will have a lasting, positive impact on the Capital Region community. This year’s class chose to plan and gather funding to transform the house’s former family rooms in a meaningful way. The project was made possible through the support of a number of sponsors and community leaders and, in the years to come, will provide families of critically ill children an escape from their everyday challenges.

“The initiative shown by members of this class to not only envision this project but to carry it through to completion is an accomplishment of which they should be extremely proud,“ said Mark Eagan, CEO, Capital Region Chamber. “Our LTV classes pride themselves on selflessly dedicating time and effort to strengthening their communities and impacting the lives of many, and these rooms are a reflection of that. We’re thrilled at what they accomplished on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House.”

“Without the support of the LTV Class of 2017 and the sponsors they brought on board, a project like this just would not have been possible,” said Jeff Yule, executive director, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region. “The work that they put into this has been phenomenal and we can’t thank them enough for giving us these two great rooms that we’re sure will bring a sense of joy and comfort to our families during difficult times.”

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region is celebrating 35 years of supporting critically ill children and their families as they seek medical care. Since its inception in 1982, the Albany Ronald McDonald House has served as a “home away from home” for more than 18,000 families of seriously ill children undergoing treatment at Albany Medical Center and other medical facilities in the area.
