Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls Hires New Principal

Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls (ALCHS) has hired a new principal to lead the school. William “Bill” Rivers, who earned his Master of Science in Special Education from St. John Fisher College, started at the school on September 27th.

Mr. Rivers began his career as an English and Special Education teacher for the Rochester City School District and then joined the first charter high school in Rochester, NY where he grew as a teacher and instructional coach, and then established himself as an administrator. From here, he joined the George Junior Republic UFSD, a Special Acts school for residential young men and women outside of Ithaca, NY, as their Principal; returning to Albany in 2014. He was proudly employed at both the Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls as the Academic Dean and Interim Principal and the Albany High School as Academy Principal over the last three years.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Rivers return to our team in this role,” said Beth Robertson, Board Chair for ALCHS. “His expertise and strong leadership will inspire our students, faculty and staff to reach their highest potential.”

Speaking about his vision for the school, Mr. Rivers added; “I am proud to serve the youth of Albany and will leverage my experience in public, residential, and charter education to accelerate the growth of Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls. Together with the board, faculty and staff, we will not only provide access to engaging instruction and a rigorous curriculum, but ensure equity by challenging our daughters to exceed college and career readiness indicators, as measured by NYS standards, four-year college graduation, and post-secondary employment.”
