Adult Practical Nursing Student Has a ‘Shot’ at Future Career Success Thanks to Capital Region BOCES

For Ashley Torres, Capital Region BOCES is giving her a “shot” at future career success and happiness.

The Clifton Park resident is enrolled in the full-time Adult Practical Nursing program at Capital Region BOCES where she recently practiced drawing and administered medicine via a needle.

“I wish I would have gone to BOCES when I was in high school and at least started some training earlier,” she said. “But the Capital Region BOCES adult program is really good.  All of the teachers are wonderful and they really help you to understand everything that you are learning.  They care.”

Torres, who works for a social services agency, plans to work as a licensed practical nurse upon graduation and attend college to become a registered nurse.

“I want to be an RN and work in labor and delivery.  I love babies and why not work with them?,” Torres said.

Torres is one of more than 150 students in the full-time Adult Practical Nurse (APN) program that started its 10-month run in September.  Classes conclude in June when the program will graduate its students into the world of being a licensed practical nurse (LPN).  A part-time class is scheduled to begin on Jan. 15.
