October 20, 2020A New York NOW Special Edition – The Time for Reckoning
WMHT Public Media (PBS- Public Broadcasting Service) is working with several Capital Region community partners on a one-hour program that is the centerpiece of a major symposium titled “The Time for Reckoning: Confronting Systemic Racism, Seeking Justice and Reimagining Society.” The goal of the symposium is to imagine a just society free of systemic racism, where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) have no reason to fear that they or a loved one will lose their lives at the hands of police. The one-hour program premieres Monday, October 26, 2020 at 9pm on a special edition of WMHT’s statewide public affairs program, New York NOW.
The New York NOW program will include several panelists from the Capital Region who will discuss racism, justice, and solutions for the future on the local, statewide, and national levels. These panelists include: Morgan Jones-Marinia, a leadership representative of All Of Us Community Action Group; Jamaica Miles, a community organizer, activist, and co-founder of the All of Us Community Action Group; Shawn Young, leadership development facilitator and co-founder of the All of Us Community Action Group; Paul Collins Hackett, a community helper and do-er; Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Albany Police Chief, Eric Hawkins; and Albany Common Council President, Corey Ellis.
“We are proud to be a part of this symposium and to welcome members from our community to openly discuss the challenges that face our neighborhoods regarding systemic racism, accountability, and police reform,” states WMHT President and CEO, Robert Altman. “The Time For Reckoning symposium and its resources endeavor to deliver information and understanding to this timely and important conversation.”
The program will premiere on WMHT-TV, WMHT’s Facebook, on YouTube, with the WMHT live stream, and on the PBS app Monday, October 26, 2020 at 9pm.
