October 25, 2017Crossroads Center for Children Receives Grant from Golub Foundation
Crossroads Center for Children is excited to announce that we have been chosen to receive a grant from Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation to support the extension of our Learning Without Tears curriculum.
Crossroads Center for Children, of Schenectady, New York, is a not-for-profit school where young children with autism spectrum disorders learn and grow alongside their more typically developing peers. The mission of Crossroads is to prepare individuals with and without developmental disabilities for life success within their family and community.
Since Crossroads opened in 1998, the school has served increasing numbers of children with and without disabilities, and they have increased the scope of our programs in order to meet the growing needs of the community. Their goal is to ensure that all of the students learn the functional, academic and social skills they need to be successful in their family, community and school classroom.
Although they do receive some government funding in the form of tuition payments, this money does not cover all of the costs of running a successful and effective educational program. In order to ensure that all of the young students learn the skills they need to become fully productive citizens within their homes, schools and communities, Crossroads must rely on financial support from the community in the way of fundraising, donations, and grants.
Crossroads applied for a grant from Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation to support the extension of their curriculum for the 2017-18 school year. Learning Without Tears and Touch Math are the two main curriculums used school-wide and both teach foundational skills in ways that are appropriate and adaptable for the students. Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation’s contribution of $500 will be used to purchase some of the Learning Without Tears materials that are needed this year for one of our new classrooms which opened in September.
The mission of Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation is to improve the quality of life of residents located in communities where Price Chopper has a strong business presence. These areas are New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
Crossroads Center for Children is delighted, proud, and honored to be selected by Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation, and thrilled to have their help to run this important program for our students.
