Schenectady Selected by America’s Promise to Host GradNation Summit

Schenectady’s Call to Action for Youth received a boost from America’s Promise Alliance and its GradNation initiative — a nationwide effort to improve the rate of on-time high school graduation. America’s Promise has been helping communities form collaborative approaches to improve youth outcomes, including graduation rates. The May 25 Youth Summit at Proctors in Schenectady is one of dozens of summits that have been held across the country.

“We have had tremendous engagement with organizations and citizens who want to see our kids have a true shot at success in school, in the workforce, and in the community,” said Robert Carreau, executive director of The Schenectady Foundation. “The Youth Summit brings the community back together roughly 18 months after our initial “Bridges to Youth” Conference in 2014 as a way of checking on our progress, listening to youths, and understanding what approaches and programs have the best chance to support their success.”

The Summit will include schools and educators, businesses, community organizations, citizens, and many youths who will help us to understand their challenges and work with us to find solutions.
Invitations to the Summit will be released in early Spring 2016. Anyone interested in learning more about the Call to Action for Youth, or to sign on to the Call to Action, should visit the Foundation’s website.
