Their Love May Wilt, But These Roses Never Will!

These students are far from budding florists, but they are putting together bouquets of roses that will never wilt or die and that promise to withstand the test of time.

Capital Region BOCES Welding and Metal Fabrication students are fabricating from scratch steel roses and selling them for $15 in time for Valentine’s Day. All of the proceeds of the sale will be benefit the SkillsUSA organization.

“It’s not like traditional welding, we get to add some art to it. We are putting it together combining art and welding. I like it,” said Brandon Stewart, who attends the program from the Mohonasen school district.

“It’s a lot of fun being able to be artistic as well as use our skills,” added classmate Matthew Amamatides from Cobleskill-Richmondville.

Teacher Chris Panny said the project tests the students on a multitude of levels while benefitting a good cause.
