May 11, 2020AlbanyCanCode Launches Registration for Summer 2020 Courses
AlbanyCanCode, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a new generation of software coders, today announced registration is underway for its Summer 2020 courses, which take on added significance amid workplace changes driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. Both courses, Front End Web Development and Python for Data Analytics, are valuable entry points for a student wishing to learn to code for the first time.
“Digital literacy has become increasingly important in the shift to a work-from-home environment, and with the expected growth in remote work even after COVID-19 pandemic is over,” said Annmarie Lanesey, Founder and CEO of AlbanyCanCode. “We remain committed not only to building the tech-savvy workforce that businesses require, but also to preparing underrepresented individuals for career opportunities in the lucrative tech field.”
In Front End Web Development, AlbanyCanCode’s most popular class, students learn the technical skills necessary for user interface (UI) development and wire framing, including HTML, CSS and introductory JavaScript. This class, offered in partnership with Capital Region BOCES, will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m. starting Tuesday, June 16.
Python for Data Analytics teaches students the basics of the popular programming language Python, as well as its important use in data science. Offered in partnership with SUNY Schenectady Community College, Python for Data Analytics will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m. starting Monday, June 15.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is still to be determined whether courses will be taught via in-person or virtual instruction. Instructors are prepared to deliver the class in either format, or as a combination of both, and 1-on-1 and small group support will continue to be provided, as needed.
Classes fill up quickly, so interested individuals are encouraged to apply promptly by visiting www.albanycancode.org. More information is available on the website or by contacting Operations Manager Rachel Sheridan at Rachel@albanycancode.org.
As part of its commitment to ensuring community access to its programs, AlbanyCanCode offers scholarships to income-eligible individuals and veterans that cover the full cost of tuition. For more information, call (518) 238-6808 or email info@albanycancode.org.
