Food and Supply Drive to Benefit Local Veterans on Saturday, May 9

Crossgates will be the site for an upcoming food & supply drive on Saturday, May 9th to benefit local veterans in need. Veterans & Community Housing Coalition and the Veterans Miracle Center have paired up with Crossgates to host a contactless food drive in the parking lot near 110 Grill & Dave & Buster’s. Sponsors of the food & supply drive include JDog Junk Removal & Hauling, Phillips Hardware, Organize Senior Moves, DeNooyer and Albany Broadcasting.

Food and supplies in need range from Ready-Made Meals, Canned Soups, Stews, Pasta, Rice-a-Roni, Mac n Cheese, Rice, Canned Tuna and Chicken, Pasta Sauce, Canned Fruit, Canned Vegetables, Granola Bars, Oatmeal, Peanut Butter, Jelly Coffee, Sugar, Flour, Cereal, Pancake Mix, Syrup, Cookies, Olive Oil, Ketchup, Mayo, Mustard, Salt, Pepper, and also Cleaning Products, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Toiletries and Hygiene Products.

Michelle Viola Straight, Director of Community Relations for Veterans & Community Housing Coalition says, “The amount of veterans and veteran’s families that are struggling just to put food on their table is absolutely heartbreaking, especially during these extremely difficult times we are facing. But this event will directly impact countless veterans in the 518, so please stop by and donate and know that your generosity will make a world of difference.”

Special guest appearances by celebrities such as Elsa (10 a.m.- 12 p.m.) and the Phillips Moose (12 – 2 p.m.) will be on site to wave as families drive through and drop off their donations.

Vehicles are asked to enter through the Dick’s Sporting Goods and Macy’s parking lot entrance and follow volunteers/signage to the drop-off area. Before dropping off your items, we ask that donations are either place in the trunk of your car so that a volunteer can retrieve the items or they can be placed out the window of your vehicle onto the tables provided so that contact is minimized.
