March 16, 2020Albany Public Library to Close Due to Coronavirus Outbreak
Albany Public Library (APL) will be closed starting Saturday, March 14, through Sunday, March 29, due to the coronavirus outbreak. All seven APL branches plan to reopen on Monday, March 30.
The library is closing as called for in the Coronavirus Closure Plan approved by the APL Board of Trustees on March 10. That plan indicated that the library would close once the City School District of Albany closed, or upon direction from Albany County or New York State. The Albany school district announced its closure this afternoon.
APL is implementing the Coronavirus Continuation of Service Plan, starting March 14 and running through the end of the closure. This plan calls for:
- Phone calls and emails will be monitored by staff Monday through Friday from 10 am until 6 pm
- eMaterials – including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, and eVideos – can be downloaded from the library website and corresponding apps (Libby, OverDrive, Flipster) for free Databases – including
- Britannica Academic, Health Reference Center Academic, and New York State Newspapers – are available on the APL website
All library locations will be fully cleaned during this closure.
During the closure, the library’s emergency response group will monitor the situation, consult with government and health officials, and communicate any updates via the APL website, email newsletters, and social media @AlbanyNYLibrary.
