Learning Through Destruction at Capital Region BOCES

Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students Damian Zapata, Mike McNeal and Duncan McClary disassemble a computer monitor recently while working in the Engineering Tech program. Students in the first-year program are exploring how circuit boards are used in every-day appliances, teacher Rock Travis said.  Zapata, McNeal and McClary all attend the program at the Center for Advanced Technology at Mohonasen from the Amsterdam City School District.

The trio are some of about three-dozen students in the Engineering Tech program. In the class, students learn about the semi-conductor industry, as well as clean room protocol, safety, electronics, hand tool usage, automation, tool extraction and repair, valve operation and repair and much more. At the end of the year, the students will take an Electronics Technician certification exam and be prepared for jobs that involve critical thinking.
