April 17, 2019Schenectady CROP Hunger Walk – Helping End Hunger One Step at a Time
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the international and national CROP Hunger Walk, the Schenectady CROP Hunger Walk set the goal to raise $35,000 through 250 walk participants to help address long-term solutions to hunger. 25% of the funds raised here in Schenectady will go to the SiCM Emergency Food Pantry, Catholic Charities Senior Meals, and the Community Crisis Network.
Last year, 200 walkers raised $30,100 through the CROP Hunger Walk. This year, Schenectady Community Ministries (SiCM) and some 800 other communities nationwide are joining together in interfaith CROP Hunger Walks around the theme, “Stepping up to end hunger since 1969.” The CROP Hunger Walk was started 50 years ago to mobilize communities to fight global hunger-fighting work of Church World Service (CWS) and local hunger-fighting agencies. Last year over 800 events raised $8.3 million dollars.
All are welcome to join the Schenectady CROP Walk (community witness to end hunger) on Sunday, May 5. The location of the walk starts at Emmanuel Friedens Church, 218 Nott Terrace, 12307. Registration is at 1:00 p.m. and the walk kicks off at 2:00 pm. The route is about 3 miles, and also offers a shorter “Golden Mile” option. Drop-ins are welcome the day of the event.
