Thousands Will Walk, Some Will Run, For Heart and Brain Health on Saturday

The Capital Region Heart Walk and Run is the American Heart Association’s largest fundraiser to fight heart disease and stroke. For the first time, there will be a 5K run in addition to a 1-or 3-mile walk. There will also be health screenings, a Kids Zone, the Red Cap Wave honoring survivors; and a moment of silence to honor those lost to heart disease and stroke. In attendance will be 6-year-old Heart Hero Ryan Galvin; Stroke Ambassador Rosalyn Wallace; Volunteer Heart Walk and Run Chair Denise Gonick, president and CEO of MVP; survivors of heart disease and stroke; families who lost loved ones to heart disease and stroke and thousands of Capital Region residents ready to fight heart disease and stroke.

Activities and opening ceremonies start at 9:30 a.m. in the P.E. Building in the Athletic Complex at the University at Albany, 1400 Washington Ave., Albany. The run and walk start lines are outside, opposite the track and begins at 10 a.m.

Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of all Americans. The American Heart Association currently funds $2 million in research in the Capital Region. Funds raised will let us continue that fight and accomplish our mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
