Veterans Day at USS SLATER

The ship will be open to the public for guided tours following the observance until 4 p.m. Admission is charged. Visiting an historic warship is a wonderful way to honor the veteran in your family. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to visit USS SLATER, a National Historic Landmark and the only Destroyer Escort afloat in America.

During World War II 563 Destroyer Escorts battled Nazi U-Boats on the North Atlantic protecting convoys of men and supplies. In the Pacific, they stood first in line to defend naval task forces from Kamikaze attacks. Many DEs continued serving the United States throughout the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Others were given to Allied nations after World War II and served gallantly in foreign navies. USS SLATER represents all of these destroyer escorts in service throughout the 20th century.

USS SLATER will remain open through November 26 this year. The ship will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Regular public hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. After Thanksgiving Weekend, the ship will close for the winter, re-opening in April 2018.

USS SLATER is located on the Hudson River in Downtown Albany just south of the Dunn Memorial Bridge. Admission is $9 for adults and $7 for children.
