Upper Union Street Schenectady Tree Lighting

On Sunday, December 6, at 4 p.m., Santa is expected to arrive at 1620 Union Street for the annual Upper Union Street tree lighting ceremony. This year’s tree, located on the Woodland Avenue side of Trustco Bank, has been decorated with 2000 new, multicolored LED bulbs. It reaches brilliantly some 40 feet into the sky.

The brief ceremony will open with entertainment by the “Dance Me” competition team. The choral group “Our Song” will herald the arrival of Santa who will light the tree and visit with children while parents take their own photos. The public is invited to enjoy refreshments and join in with more caroling.  Everything is free.

“We love this tradition which brings the business and residential neighborhood together,” said Upper Union Street Business Improvement District (BID) Chair Marie DeBrocky. “It’s low key and homey. This year we are especially gratified that our newest board member, Christopher Mastroianni, took on the task of totally refreshing the tree lights. Volunteer service is an import aspect of BID success.”

Earlier in the day one of Upper Union Street’s newest businesses, Flowers by Jo-Ann, will host her holiday open house. BID members Dunkin Donuts, Gershon’s Deli and Hot Harry’s will be providing refreshments during the tree lighting.
