Schenectady County Public Library to Host Free Computer Classes

During the month of August, the Schenectady County Public Library will host computer classes at its Central Library and Phyllis Bornt Branch Library & Literacy Center.

As always, all classes are FREE to attend, thanks to funding provided by the Friends of the Library,

You must register for each class you would like to attend by either calling 388.4511 or 372.4393, or by visiting www.scpl.org and registering on the Programs & Events page.

Get to Know Your iPad
Tuesday, August 9, 9:15-10:45 a.m.

What’s all the fuss about iPads? What is iOS 9? Do you have an iPad and want to feel more comfortable using it? Bring your questions and learn basic techniques of using an iPad. Bring your own iPad or borrow one of ours.

Microsoft Word 2013: Basics (NEW CLASS)
Wednesday, August 10, 6-7:30 p.m.

Introduction to the basics of creating simple documents: Learn about the Word 2013 environment and tips for getting started (including line spacing, saving, and printing).

iPad, Part 2: Let the Tips Continue
Tuesday, August 16, 9:15-10:45 a.m.

If you know the basics of how to use an iPad but want to do more with it, come and learn some little known tips and tricks for using an iPad wisely. We’ll talk about taking photos, putting a slideshow together, Siri and more. Bring your own iPad or borrow one of ours.

Microsoft Word 2013: Getting to Know Word
Wednesday, August 17, 6-7:30 p.m.

Create and manipulate simple documents. Includes editing, formatting, spell check, and cut/copy/paste.

Prerequisite: Microsoft Word 2013: Basics.

Microsoft Word 2013: File Management
Wednesday, August 24, 6-7:30 p.m.

Explore Windows’ operating environment with a focus on managing your computer files. Learn about naming files, creating folders and various locations for saving and/or backing up documents. Prerequisite: Must have be very familiar with the mouse and keyboard.

An introduction to computers for absolute beginners. No experience necessary.

Basic Keyboarding
Friday, August 12, 10:15-11:45 a.m.

A hands-on class to learn the computer keyboard. Those who are new to computers should take this class.

Basic Internet
Tuesday, August 16, 10:15-11:45 a.m.

A very basic, hands-on introduction to the Internet. Requirements: Must be able to use the mouse and keyboard.

Internet Searching
Thursday, August 18, 10:15-11:45 a.m.

Learn how to search for information on the Internet. Requirement: Must have taken Basic Internet.

Basic Email
Friday, August 19, 10:15-11:45 a.m.

Set up a Gmail account to communicate safely through emails and learn how to write, send, respond and delete emails. Requirement: Must have basic internet skills.
