Local Community Arts Organization Celebrates Milestone

C.R.E.A.T.E. (Capital Region Expressive Arts, Transformation, and Empowerment) Community Studios, with locations in downtown Schenectady and Saratoga Springs, celebrates its one year anniversary next month with a family-friendly, community-minded event that will appeal to families throughout the Capital Region. The anniversary celebration takes place March 10 between the hours of 1 and 4 pm, at Rob Alley at Proctors in Schenectady.

To commemorate a year of bringing expressive arts and open studio services to its surrounding community for free or at a very low cost, C.R.E.A.T.E is hosting this event in concert with various sponsors from around the Capital District to provide live music, dancing, poetry, food, a silent auction, and of course – art-making. Attendees will create a piece of work that they can then bring home to enjoy, and performances will highlight works from students & alumni from Schenectady High School & regular attendees to groups at C.R.E.A.T.E.

Co-Founder of C.R.E.A.T.E., Heather Hutchison of Schenectady, says of the event, “We are so excited to celebrate one year of providing free and low-cost art services to people from all backgrounds. C.R.E.A.T.E. has become a safe place where individuals of all ages can create art and express themselves. Our goal has always been to use expressive arts as an equalizer across cultural and economic barriers, and for participants to learn how to use art as an expressive medium to increase their general well-being. A frequent visitor to the Schenectady studio, says of her time at C.R.E.A.T.E, “Art lets me be my true self.”

Tickets to the event are $10 for individuals or $30 families in advance, or $12 for individuals and $35 for families at the door. The funds raised go directly to the cause, sustaining C.R.E.A.T.E.’s mission to remain accessible to all income levels.
