Donovan’s sunshine Superman 50th Anniversary Tour

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Corporation is excited to be a part of Donovan’s Sunshine Superman 50th Anniversary Tour, here Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 7:30 PM.

Donovan, ‘60s legend, icon, poet and one of the world’s most enduring singer songwriters, announced his Sunshine Superman 50th Anniversary Tour today. This tour honors an artist whose fingerprints can be seen throughout the last half-century of popular music.

“I am delighted to be going on tour throughout North America, to thank all who have followed my work from the beginning—and all who have just discovered me now,” Donovan says.

This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of Donovan’s hit single “Sunshine Superman” when it reached #1 on The Billboard Charts. The album of the same name is considered a classic masterpiece, described during Donovan’s induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012: “Donovan single-handedly initiated the Psychedelic Revolution with Sunshine Superman.”

Audiences will be treated to Donovan’s history of hits, including “Sunshine Superman,” “Mellow Yellow,” “The Hurdy Gurdy Man,” and “Jenifer Juniper”, as well as his legendary storytelling and other cult classic songs.

In addition, Astrella, Donovan’s daughter, is launching a Musical T’s Collection to coincide with the tour. The new luxury T-shirt line offers reimagined visual renderings of the musician’s classic album covers. The shirts come equipped with a patent-protected technology that enables buyers of the Musical T’s to download music from Donovan’s album of the same name when purchased. A portion of each T-shirt sale benefits Donovan’s lifelong mission to teach Transcendental Meditation to school children in his home country, Scotland. Pre orders will start April 15th on the Astrella website.

Keeping with a tradition of helping organizations, Donovan is spotlighting charities, which will benefit from VIP ticket sales, including Sweet Relief as well as the David Lynch Foundation to support the “Donovan Children’s Fund”—a division of the David Lynch Foundation—which will help bring Transcendental Meditation to tens of thousands of at-risk students in underserved schools throughout the United States and Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. VIP packages include two tickets with VIP seating, entrance to enjoy sound check, a meet-and-greet after the show with Donovan, The Donovan Essentials double CD and more.

It’s all a long way from that heady 60s decade that birthed him, but 2016 will confirm Donovan as much more than a mere heritage act. He embodies the history of British rock and pop. He is an institution, and his legacy and influence will ensure that he is part of its future, too.

About Donovan
Born in Glasgow in 1946, Donovan developed a name for himself by creating an eclectic and style all his own that merged jazz, pop, world music, and psychedelic music together. The first artists signed to CBS/Epic Records by Clive Davis, the musician quickly gained international acclaim. At the age of 18, his first hit, “Catch the Wind,” earned the prestigious Ivor Novello Award. In 1966, Donovan breached the Billboard Hot 100 with “Sunshine Superman” — which was a number one hit single, followed later by “Mellow Yellow,” and, in 1968, “The Hurdy Gurdy Man.” In his career, Donovan had 16 singles make it on to Billboard. A friend to many renowned musical acts, he taught John Lennon how to fingerpick a guitar. After a nearly two-decade hiatus, he returned to the scene in 1996 with the album “Sutras,” and in 2004 he released “Beat Cafe.” Throughout his career, Donovan has received numerous accolades, most notably his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
